CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT SHORT COURSE

Course Outline

Assessments

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Planning and preparing a participant for sport competition

  • Supporting a participant in a sport competition

  • Reflecting on preparing participant for a sport competition

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)

  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario

  • Perform CPR on an infant

  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis

  • Manage a casualty with asthma

  • Manage a choking casualty

  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning

  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed

  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation

  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)

  • Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies for injuries, illness, and medical condition

  • Sports taping

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.

Course Certificate

Upon successful completion of all course requirements, students will receive a Certificate of Level 1 Sports Training within 30 days via PDF. Certificates are typically provided to the student within 10 business days of successful completion.

This certificate does not require renewal - First Aid and CPR updates required only.

The Level 1 Sports Trainer course equips participants with essential skills to ensure safety in sports environments.  The course is ideal for club volunteers, coaches, and sports enthusiasts. It covers key areas such as injury prevention techniques, immediate care strategies, and concussion management protocols, making it a valuable asset for anyone involved in sports.

This is an integrated program designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding and skillset in sports injury prevention, management, and competition preparation. 

This skill set incorporates the following units:

  • SISSS00118 - Sports Trainer Level 1

  • HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid

  • SISSSCO015 - Prepare participants for sport competition

  • SISSSPT001 - Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies

  • HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

 This is the standard requirement to perform the duties of a Sports Trainer in most major Australian sporting codes.

  • Preventing Sports Injuries

  • Nutrition and Hydration in Sport

  • Drugs in Sport

  • Management of the Injured Athlete

  • Common Medical Conditions

  • Concussion

  • Transporting the Injured Athlete

  • Common Sporting Illness and Injuries
